Why Guests Don't Download Your Hotel App

The problem with hotel app isnt necissarily the app. it's asking a tired guest to install software before they've taken their shoes off, and all they really want is an answer.

Every independent hotel that has ever considered a guest app runs into the same challenge. The download happens at the worst possible moment; a guest arrives after a long day of travel, gets handed a key and a link, and is asked to download an app and create account before they've even seen the room.
Most guests simple don't want another app on their phone. Especially for a stay that may only last a few days. And even those who download it, may have little reason to even open it again.
The friction isn't technical
Front desk teams know this intuitively. The questions keep coming; what time is breakfast? Is there a pol? Where should we eat tonight? How do I connect to Wi-Fi? The app was supposed to make those answers easier to find. But if guests don't use it, the information may as well not be there.
The problem isn't creating the information, it's making sure guests can reach it easily at the exact moment they need it. Every extra step between the guest and the answer creates an extra opportunity to loose them.
What works is the opposite of installation; something already in the room that requires no download, no account, and no learning curb. Guess simple scan and get the information they need, when they need it.
See what replaces the app.
